A Coweta shooting victim is out of a Tulsa hospital's Intensive Care Unit. Coweta Police say Angie Thompson's stepfather shot her and her grandmother with a 12 gauge shot gun about two weeks ago. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports even though both women are improving, the road to recovery will be tough.

Nineteen-year-old Angie Thompson was a picture of health, with dreams of becoming a surgeon. But two weeks ago, police say her stepfather tried to kill her, and Angie's Grandmother Patricia Honeycutt.

"It's been fairly traumatic. Nobody expects two members of their family to be shot," said family member Randy Honeycutt.

Coweta Police arrested Michael Henson minutes after the shootings. Investigators say he still had the gun with him, they also say Henson later confessed that he was in love with his stepdaughter and became angry when she didn't come to dinner.

Randy Honeycutt says since the shooting, his stepmother has lost 75% of her stomach. Angie lost a kidney, her gall bladder, and her left hand, and part of her liver.

For her family though it's a cause for celebration.

“We're all happy. We're all ecstatic. She's not completely out of the woods yet,” Honeycutt said.

But she is alive.

Randy says he believes the power of prayer came through on this one. He tells The News On 6 that moments after the shooting Angie's wounded grandmother prayed as she waited for help.
