STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Corey Williams will return to his alma mater to be an assistant coach at Oklahoma State.

"I am very excited to be back," said Williams, who helped Oklahoma State to the round of 16 of the NCAA tournament in 1991 and 1992. "The university has changed so much since I left. I've always been a Cowboy on the inside, and now I've got a chance to coach at the same school that I played for. There are not many people that can say that."

Williams, who has spent the past eight seasons at Oral Roberts as an assistant to Scott Sutton, will now coach under another Sutton brother, Sean, at Oklahoma State. Williams and Sean Sutton were Cowboys teammates under the Sutton brothers' father, Eddie Sutton.

"This is a great day for OSU basketball, and I look forward to having him as a key component of our staff," Sean Sutton said. "Corey was an outstanding player for the Cowboys. We had a lot of exciting times together as teammates on two outstanding teams."

Williams was a second-round draft pick by the Chicago Bulls in 1992 and was a part of the team's third straight NBA championship.

He replaces Jimmy Williams, who resigned this month after three seasons on the Cowboys' staff.
