A controversial website has caught the attention of an Oklahoma mom, it is a web page that supports pedophiles. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports the website is geared toward children and tries to convince them it is okay to be in romantic and physical relationships with adults.
Ronda Monschau, a young mother in Inola alerted the News On 6 to the website. She thinks all parents should know about it so they can educate their children. She is also one of about 13,000 people who have signed a petition to get rid of the website.
Ronda had a baby daughter five weeks ago and she chats with other new mothers in a mom's club website. An email warning popped up on that site recently, telling of a website that made Ronda furious.
"It disgusted me. I almost wanted to click off it, but I think everybody needs to know about this," said the concerned mother.
The website is called Sugar and Spice and is decorated with child friendly graphics and language. It talks about girl lovers, adults who develop special relationships with young girls, and it says touching between girls and adults is not wrong, as they've been taught, but quite natural. The website also says pedophiles have gotten a bad wrap by being thrown into the same category as child molesters.
"The difference between being a pedophile and child molester is a pedophile wants to have a spiritual, loving relationship with their special friends. They want to buy them things and take them out. A child molester is someone who just wants to hurt you," Monschau said.
Ronda fears her 11-year-old niece and friends might believe the claims on the website, even though the United States has spent years passing laws, protecting children from these types of people.
"Shocked me this website is allowed to be on the internet, that's why they started a petition, to get it off the internet," said Monschau.
An online petition has collected more than 13,000 signatures from people in many U.S. states, as well as in other countries including Australia and Sweden. The petition doesn't scare the owner of the site. His name is Lindsey Ashford, he’s located in the Netherlands and his site is just one of 13 with a similar theme. He tells The News On 6 there is much disinformation about pedophilia, due largely to media distortions so he wants to educate people. He believes pedophilia is a sexual orientation, not a choice and says children are innately sexual, capable of enjoying physical intimacy with others.
Ronda says if public pressure doesn't get rid of the website, at least parents can block it from their computer and talk to their kids about the content.
