Edmondson Reimburses $2,750 To Campaign

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Attorney General Drew Edmondson said Monday he is reimbursing a total of $2,750 to his campaign for an expenditure and a dozen reimbursements he received due to what he says was an incorrect interpretation of state ethics rules.

In a letter to Marilyn Hughes, executive director of the state Ethics Commission, Edmondson says the campaign expenditures and reimbursements were not proper and were made by the campaign under the belief that they were allowed for political activity.

Oklahoma's ethics rules state that one campaign cannot give to another candidate's campaign, with some exceptions.

Edmondson says he donated $2,250 from his personal funds between 2004 and 2006 to various political campaigns for the state House, the Oklahoma House Political Action Committee, the U.S. House and Senate and statewide offices.

Edmondson says he is also reimbursing his campaign for a $500 donation it made last year to state Auditor and Inspector Jeff McMahan's campaign.
