LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Daniel Cormier wins his fifth straight national championship by narrowly defeating Mo Lawal in the 211.5-pound freestyle match Saturday night at the U.S. National Championships.
Cormier edged his training partner and former Oklahoma State teammate 1-0, 1-0 in the best-of-three periods format.
Cormier, who finished 4th in the 2004 Olympics, says that Lawal wrestled tough, while he didn't wrestle like he wanted to.
He says that all the wrestlers at the championships are preparing for the U.S. Olympic wrestling trials.
The top seven from each weight class in freestyle and Greco-Roman qualify for the Olympic trials, which will be held June 9th and 10th in Las Vegas.
