OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A covenant marriage bill designed to make it more difficult for couples to divorce ran into trouble in a state Senate committee on Wednesday. The bill never came to a vote because backers Wednesday said it did not have enough support to pass the Senate Rules Committee.
There is a chance the bill could resurface as an amendment to other legislation. Otherwise it would not be considered until the next legislative session.
The bill would have dropped incompatibility as grounds for divorce for couples who agreed to have a covenant marriage.
Critics of covenant marriages say they do not make a significant difference in the divorce rate.
