FREDERICK, Md. (AP) _ A man and his four young children were found dead Monday in a town house, authorities said. Police did not immediately know how they died.

The bodies were discovered after a school liaison concerned about some of the children called police, said Lt. Thomas Chase. Officers entered through a window and found the bodies in different rooms.

The children _ ages 9, 4, 3 and 1 _ were found in bed under the covers, Chase said.

A man and woman with four children lived in the house, said neighbor Nathaniel Harris. Police had been called there three or four times in the past six months, he said.

``Everyone in the neighborhood is shocked,'' Harris said. ``This is a nice area.''

Frederick is about 50 miles northwest of Washington.
