INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A judge entered not guilty pleas Tuesday for a man charged with stabbing and wounding his 11-month-old son with a kitchen knife.
Kevin Chandler, 30, was also ordered to have no contact with his children, including the victim, Devon, and their mother, Angela Limbrock.
As he was led by guards through a courthouse hallway, Chandler denied stabbing Devon and blamed Limbrock.
``She set me up and she stabbed my son; I can't believe this,'' said Chandler, who has been charged with attempted murder.
Limbrock said outside court that she was ready to testify against Chandler, who authorities have said is homeless.
``I think he's trying to blame me due to he knows what he did to his son and he don't want to sit in prison,'' she said.
The child was out of the hospital after surgery, police said Tuesday. The 4-inch knife, buried up to the handle, missed vital organs, authorities said.
The stabbing took place March 14 as Chandler and the boy waited in a parked car outside Limbrock's apartment, police said. After the stabbing, Chandler dropped the boy out of a window and drove away, they said. He was arrested two days later.
In addition to attempted murder, Chandler was charged with aggravated battery and two counts of battery and is being held on $1 million bond. The judge gave him until March 30 to hire an attorney
