COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina coach Ray Tanner dismissed two freshmen from the team Monday.
Lonnie Chisenhall and Nick Fuller violated team policy, Tanner said in a statement.
``This is a very unfortunate situation,'' Tanner said. ``Both of these young men come from outstanding families and I feel bad for their parents. It is inappropriate for me to make any other comments, as this case is now in the hands of the legal authorities.''
Both players were in the Richland County jail Monday night, according to the jail's Web site.
Fuller has been charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of grand larceny, while Chisenhall is charged one count each of grand larceny and burglary, according to the jail.
It was not immediately clear which police agency charged the players.
Chisenhall is a left-handed outfielder who started 19 of South Carolina's 20 games, hitting .313 with one home run and 13 RBIs.
Fuller is a right-handed pitcher who did not allow a hit or a run in five innings of relief. He had seven strikeouts and seven walks in his six appearances.
