A major pet food maker has recalled 60 million cans and pouches of dog and cat food. Across the country, ten pet deaths have been attributed to the tainted food. Menu Foods, a company that manufactures pet food for dozens of brand names, changed wheat suppliers and that new wheat gluten is where the investigation is being centered. Although none have reportedly died in the Tulsa area, pet owners are still concerned.
The signs of acute kidney failure, which is what pets who've eaten the tainted food are developing, are vomiting, loss of appetite and general lethargy. So far, Dr. Collette Crotty of Veterinary Medical Center says there are no cases in the Tulsa area that she has heard of, but if your pet develops any sign of illness she recommends getting it to a veterinarian to be checked out just to be sure.
