WINONA, Minn. (AP) _ A long-standing NCAA Division II basketball record held by Langston University of Oklahoma may be about to fall.
Winona State of Minnesota tied Langston's mark of 52 straight wins with an 80-70 victory Sunday over Southwest Minnesota State in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship game.
Langston won 52 straight games with perfect seasons in 1943-44 and 1944-45 and by winning the first five games of the 1945-46 season.
Winona State is 30-0 this season and has not lost since January 7th, 2006, when the Warriors suffered an 84-79 setback at home to Bemidji State.
The Warriors can break the record when they play in the North Central Regional starting Saturday.
