Honoring Tulsa's Heroes

Tulsa honored its heroes Thursday night. Dozens of Tulsa Police officers received awards for amazing acts of courage that went far above and beyond their duty. The awards banquet was put on by the Citizens Crime Commission and honored officers who saved lives, stopped criminals and protected innocent citizens.

News On 6 anchor Lori Fullbright was the emcee.

Department Commendations.
They are awarded to any member of the Tulsa Police Department for an outstanding act or achievement which brings credit to the City of Tulsa and/or the Tulsa Police Department. These acts are above and beyond the officerâ€™s basic assignment.

Lifesaving Awards.
An award to any member of the Tulsa Police Department for sustaining the life of any human being through the practice of first aid, either on or off duty, except those persons employed as medics or ambulance attendants, and where substantiated by a medical doctor that without aid, a loss of human life would have occurred. This award may also be made to any officer who, through outstanding or appropriate actions, saves the life of another officer or citizen.

Chiefâ€™s Award.
It is given to any member of the Tulsa Police Department for an outstanding accomplishment which resulted in improved administration, operation or substantial savings in manpower or operational costs. The recipient went above and beyond the requirements of the normal assignment.

Medal of Valor.
It is awarded to any member of the Tulsa Police Department for an act of outstanding bravery or heroism through which the recipient demonstrates to a great degree the characteristics of selflessness, personal courage, and devotion to duty.
