OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The state Senate Thursday reconsidered and approved a bill intended to reduce the number of high school dropouts in Oklahoma.
The bill by Senator Kathleen Wilcoxson and supported by Governor Brad Henry would prohibit students younger than 18 from dropping out of school.
Henry says students need to be pushed to earn a high school diploma even if they need remediation or alternative schooling.
The bill had failed earlier this week but was reconsidered and passed Thursday morning on a vote of 31-to-14 and now goes to the state House for consideration.
