Local churches are helping area police officers “Take Up the Shield,” their goal is to get the inspirational book into the hands of every officer in Oklahoma.

Sand Springs was the first department to receive the book. The congregation of the Broadway Baptist church, in Sand Springs, donated enough books for each officer. The book, which was written by a street cop, compares the spiritual armor described in the Bible to the physical armor police wear on the job.

"They deal with the worst of the worst and hopefully, they will find good things in this book that will help them and help others," said Dr. Kent Choate from Broadway Baptist Church.

Broken Arrow officers will receive the books on Wednesday.
