OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Free college tuition would be given to children of Oklahomans killed while serving in the Armed Forces under a bill moving through the state Legislature.

House Bill 1063, by Eric Proctor, D-Tulsa, would require the military man or woman to be a registered Oklahoma voter who filed a state tax return the year preceding his or her death.

Children would be required to satisfy the eligibility requirements imposed by the state college or university. They would be entitled to 48 months of free tuition.

The measure passed Monday through the House Higher Education Subcommittee and next will be heard in the full Education Committee.

``This is about keeping our commitment to soldiers,'' Proctor said. ``It is the least we can do for these families.''
