EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Tyler Mach went 3-5 with 2-RBIs as Oklahoma State beat Lamar 5-2 on Friday in the Citrus Tournament in the season opener for both baseball teams.
Oklahoma State, which had an earlier three-game series against Hofstra canceled because of winter weather, turned four double plays and improved to 49-20-1 all-time in season openers.
Senior Ty Wright opened the game for Oklahoma State with a leadoff home run off Lamar starter Lamar Harrington, and Ryan Flavell's 2-out RBI single in the 2nd-inning put the Cowboys ahead 2-0.
Up 2-1, the Cowboys scored twice in the 7th-inning, as Corey Brown tripled to score Flavell and later scored on a single by Tyler Mach. Mach also hit a solo home run in the 8th-inning.
Oklahoma State starter Matt Gardner allowed 1-run and 4-hits while striking out 4-batters in 5-innings. Sophomore Jeff Breedlove pitched a scoreless 9th-inning to record his first career save.
Collin DeLome led Lamar, going 2-3 with an RBI.
The Cowboys will play McNeese State in the tournament on Saturday.
