SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says it arrested the assistant police chief of Sallisaw during a routine traffic stop over the weekend.
56-year-old Billy Jack McLemore was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol about 2:20 Sunday morning.
McLemore -- who also faces a complaint of possession of a firearm while intoxicated -- was released later that day from the Sequoyah County jail on three-thousand dollars bail.
City Manager Bill Baker says McLemore has been placed on vacation leave.
OHP troopers said McLemore refused to take a breath analyzer test after he was stopped west of Sallisaw on US Highway 64.
The patrol says two passengers were arrested for public intoxication.
