NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ A state audit has found about $7,000 in cash is missing from the Cleveland County District Attorney's office.
The audit was done as former prosecutor Tim Kuykendall was leaving office and new prosecutor Greg Mashburn was preparing to move in. Mashburn defeated Kuykendall in the Republican primary last July and later won the general election.
Kuykendall says the cash was taken from drug forfeiture cases and was kept in five envelopes in a safe. He says his office manager discovered the envelopes were missing during an inventory of the office safe and he asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate.
Kuykendall says more than 20 people had the combination to the safe.
Mashburn says he's changed the lock on the safe and fewer than five people now have the combination.
