OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- ExpressJet Airlines Inc. will soon offer new nonstop service from Oklahoma City and Tulsa, but is not ready to say what cities will be served, a spokeswoman for the Houston-based regional carrier said.

Airline spokeswoman Kristy Nicholas said the airline will begin flying out of Will Rogers World Airport in April. The goal is to provide non-stop service not now available from Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

The company, which until recently operated as Continental Express, plans to announce its flight schedule next week.

"At this point, they are still finalizing their flight schedule, which is bypassing the hubs and flying point-to-point on 50-passenger Embraer regional jets," said Alexis Higgins, marketing director at Tulsa International Airport.

Nicholas said the airline will start selling tickets for the new service on Thursday.

Will Rogers' latest nonstop addition was in September when United Airlines began its nonstop service to Los Angeles.

Other cities that have nonstop service from Oklahoma City are Chicago, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Mo., Las Vegas, Memphis, Tenn.; Minneapolis, Orlando, Fla., Phoenix, Salt Lake City and St. Louis.

Tulsa offers nonstop services to the same cities, except for Orlando, and has a direct flight to Newark, N.J.

Oklahoma City and Tulsa are among 24 cities where ExpressJet is adding service. Other cities include New Orleans, Omaha, Neb., and San Diego.

Nicholas said by eliminating layovers, the company hopes to trim travel times and provide travelers with added convenience.
