Law enforcement across Oklahoma say snow and freezing drizzle from this latest winter storm has left many roads and highways with a new layer of ice, leading to dozens of accidents, including three fatal crashes.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a truck lost control on an icy overpass near Dale, killing 72-year-old Richard Kronholm of Wellston as he walked on a bridge on US Highway 270 near Bethel.

Another fatality crash on Oklahoma Highway 33 near Cushing killed 24-year-old Drumright resident Kecia Stevens. And 57-year-old Kathaleen Summers of Berryville, Arkansas, died in an accident on US Highway 64 in Osage County.

The News on 6 has traveled most of the major highways around the Tulsa area and for the most part, drivers were getting by okay. Police say the key for motorists is to slow down and give yourself room between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Tulsa Police say most of the accidents in the city so far, have been caused by drivers going too fast.

Tulsa city sand crews were also out Wednesday evening, putting a salt/sand mixture on the roadways.

Tulsa Police say there are still plenty of dangerous slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses, so drivers are urged to be very cautious. A big problem area was intersections, where some motorists couldn't stop in time. And anything on a hill was a problem when the wet snow started falling.

If you don't want to drive, you might want to consider Tulsa Transit. They are now operating their 'snow routes.' For information on those 'snow routes' CLICK HERE.
