The Sapulpa Historical Society is hoping to resurrect a bit of history. News on 6 reporter Rick Wells tells us about their big plans for a small building in Sapulpa's downtown.
The developing project will give younger visitors a look at how things used to be.
"Our plan is to turn it into an inter-active children's museum, said Doris Yocham with the Historical Society. “Children don't know how to fill up the gas tank this way (by hand)."
The old building was a Waite Phillips station in the 1920’s, then a Barnsdall company station.
"95 percent of the original structure is still there," said Chief Eaton with the Historical Society Board.
Eaton negotiated the deal with the Locksmith who owned the building.
“We were looking for a project, a Centennial project," said Eaton.
Now they have one, but how will they roll the clock back on this old building?
"Sapulpa Main Street is gonna help us, they have an architect,†Yocham said.
The community will also help in the planning.
The Historical Society has some vehicles from the early 1900's in its collection, and the renovated station will give them a proper place to display them.
There’s no timetable for when the museum will open.
