In our latest Oklahoma Poll 7 out of 10 Oklahoman’s said road crews did a “good†or “excellent†job cleaning up after the ice storm.
News on 6 reporter Chris Wright spoke with the head of street maintenance in Tulsa, and has more on his reaction to the poll.
Dan Crossland says he’s pleased with the high approval rating. He says that although their resources were stretched thin during the storm, his crews did the best they could.
Crossland says while the ice and sleet has melted, it may be a while before city streets are completely back to normal. That is because of all the sand that is still everywhere. Crossland says sand removal is now the biggest challenge facing his department, and it could take some time to clear it from every Tulsa street.
Crossland says he and everyone involved in street maintenance continue to learn on the job as the ice storm cleanup continues.
"We want to learn from every event, and see opportunities for improvement,†Street Maintenance Manager Dan Crossland said. “Everyone involved in the public works area throughout the city, county, state, they were faced with a most difficult task.â€
As for those potholes, Crossland says all the major ones have been filled, but his crews are still working on the smaller ones.
