OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Student-operated remote controls are replacing pencils and paper for quizzes and class participation at Oklahoma colleges and universities.
The clickers use infrared or radio frequency sensors to register responses. James Bidlack, a biology professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, says the software registers responses immediately, making it easier for professors to teach large classes.
Bidlack uses the clickers in his general biology classes, which has about 100 students.
Bidlack says the clickers help him judge how well students are learning and forces students to pay more attention in class.
But not all students are big fans. The clickers cost $20 or more and gaining access to online registration can be another $20.
