The News on 6 and the “Tulsa World†asked Oklahomans to sound off about the ice storm in our latest Oklahoma Poll. And the numbers were overwhelmingly positive.
Eighty-two percent of Oklahomans said electric companies did a good or excellent job restoring power after the storm. Those numbers were highest in rural Oklahoma, where 84 percent gave repair crews a thumbs up.
Statewide, only four percent gave power companies a poor rating.
Road clearing crews got a 69 percent approval rating. Only one-in-three Oklahomans gave roads a fair or poor rating. Again, the highest marks came from the state's rural areas.
Eighty-six percent of Oklahomans approved of the job law enforcement, fire departments and ambulances did in the ice. That number went up to 87 percent in the Tulsa area.
Charities won the approval of four-out-of-five Oklahomans. Almost half of Oklahoma said groups like the Red Cross, Salvation Army and Oklahoma Baptists Disaster Relief did an excellent job.
Then we asked you to give us a grade. How'd we do in the ice storm? In Tulsa, 73 percent of you said excellent, another 23 percent said good.
Finally we asked, based on this ice storm, how would the state respond to a major disaster or terrorist attack? There we found the most room for improvement. Seventy percent of Oklahomans said excellent or good. One-out-of-five said fair and six percent said poor.
Our poll has a three-and-a-half percent margin of error.
The Tulsa World will have more about the numbers in Sunday’s paper.
