SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. (AP) _ A pilot had to maneuver between traffic but was able to safely land his small plane on an interstate highway Friday after experiencing mechanical problems, authorities said.
The 1976 twin-engine Piper plane lost power around 3:30 p.m. and landed on Interstate 75 in southern Hillsborough County, near Tampa, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Larry Coggins. Only the pilot and co-pilot were aboard.
``He just found a safe area in between traffic,'' Coggins said. The pilot taxied to the median.
No injuries were reported. Aviation officials are investigating.
