OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A state lawmaker is seeking a reduction in his state pay.
Republican state Representative Jason Murphey of Guthrie has proposed a resolution seeking a public vote on whether to cut annual legislative salaries from $38,400 a year down to salary of the average Oklahoman, which is slightly less than $30,000 a year.
Oklahoma lawmakers are among the highest paid part-time legislators in the country.
Murphey plans to hold a press conference at the state Capitol Thursday to discuss his proposal. He also promised to pay the difference between his salary and that of the average Oklahoman -- about $8,000 -- to a faith-based charity.
