OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Remington Park averaged 9.6 horses per race during its 2006 thoroughbred meet, putting the Oklahoma City track near the top of a national list for average field size.
The track's thoroughbred meet, held from August 4th through November 28th, consisted of 625 races and 6,000 starters.
Remington Park finished second in field size nationally among tracks that conducted 100 or more thoroughbred races in 2006.
Evangeline Downs in Louisiana topped the list with a 9.9-horse average.
Equibase, thoroughbred racing's official source for information, compiled the list.
Track officials say larger field sizes typically result in higher wagering numbers.
Remington Park earlier reported that its on-track live handle for the 2006 meet was about $5.34 million, a 17.5 percent increase from the previous year.
