Thousands in Muskogee are still without power, and officials are urging people to check on elderly neighbors who are in the dark.
Health Care worker Deborah Huit has been visiting elderly couples like the Flemings, who have chosen not to head to shelters while the power is out. The Flemings have lived in their west Muskogee home for more than 50 years, and despite the lack of electricity and the utility pole in the street, they have decided to tough it out.
Still, they say being cooped up in their home is difficult.
"When a guy gets used to doing everything for himself, it's rough when you can't do nothing," Wayne Fleming said.
Any elderly resident who want to go to a shelter, but cannot get there themselves can call the Muskogee police department at 683-8000.
