FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who didn't get to fully implement his highly touted passing offense, has accepted a job at Tulsa. Malzahn is leaving the Razorbacks to be an assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator for the Golden Hurricane.
New Tulsa coach Todd Graham announced Malzahn's hiring Monday.
The 41-year-old Malzahn joined Arkansas coach Houston Nutt's staff before the 2006 season when Nutt added an offensive coordinator's position. Malzahn had been coach at Springdale High School, and Bulldogs quarterback Mitch Mustain, tight end Ben Cleveland and receiver Damian Williams signed with Arkansas. Williams has since transferred to Southern California.
Arkansas finished the 2006 season at Number 15 in the AP Poll and with a 10-and-4 record.
The Razorbacks relied on the running of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, leaving limited plays for Mustain and quarterback Casey Dick to throw the ball.
Graham says he is eager for Malzahn to install a no-huddle, spread offense.
