Oklahoma is preparing for the worst. Northeastern Oklahoma just finished digging out from one of its biggest snowfalls in history. But ice is a different matter.
The ice storm of 1987 is used as a yardstick to judge all successive storms. The city was crippled by heavy ice.
When people lost power, they turned to candles and fireplaces. Of course, indoor fires come with inherent dangers.
20 years later, Tulsans are trying not to repeat the mistakes of the past. A Tulsa Lowe’s store was packed with people not wanting to be caught off guard. Dozens stocked up with shovels and salt.
Lowe's managers say they're going through two pallets of salt every hour. Experts say for a two-car driveway, you should pick up two 40 pound bags. They say people are paying much more attention this time around.
Juston Vunetich: "the first snow people say, ‘it ain't gonna snow'. The second time, as soon as they say 'snow', people are out several days in advance."
In fact, business has been so brisk, Lowe's has activated its emergency network, and more supplies are on the way.
