Many Oklahomans are bracing for that big winter storm. Just like snowflakes, this one is going to be a little different than the one we saw last November.
6 in the Morning reporter Carina Sonn says city of Tulsa salt and sand crews are preparing for a busy weekend. Piles of a sand/salt mixture are ready for trucks, as soon as the bad weather hits Tulsa.
PSO on the other hand says there's not a whole lot it can physically do to prepare. Officials say last year's big storm brought a lot of sleet and snow but nothing that stuck to trees and power lines.
This ice storm could be different, causing a number of power outages. Spokesman Stan Whiteford says PSO's as prepared as it can be given the circumstances are so uncertain. "There are some behind the scenes type things and it's basically coordination of crews, making sure we know who is available, how long it may take them to get here, if we need to call on outside assistance."
If a lot of people lose power, Whiteford says the utility company could call for help within the state or ask for assistance from utility companies in Kansas City, Joplin or Shreveport. If the whole state is hit hard, moving crews around will be difficult.
If you experience a power outage over the weekend, the number you should call is 888-218-3919.
