Funeral services are set for former OSU star and Denver Bronco Darrent Williams who was shot and killed in a New Years drive by shooting.
A memorial will be held Wednesday in Colorado for Williams, his funeral service is set for Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
Denver Police are asking for the public's help to find Williams' killer. News on 6 Anchor Craig Day says while investigators are searching for clues and a motive in the shooting, family members, friends and fans are trying to cope with the shocking death.
At the crime scene, and outside the Denver Broncos headquarters, makeshift memorials for Darrent Williams are taking shape. The balloons, candles, stuffed animals and messages only tell a small part of the grief and shock experienced by many fans of the slain NFL cornerback and former Oklahoma State star.
"You left a good legacy. Two years in the league," said one Denver fan.
That disbelief is also being felt in Fort Worth, where Williams left behind two young children and people he loved and who loved him.
"I text messaged him last night to tell him Happy New Years and he didn't ever text message me back," said Tierra Leonard, the mother of Williams’ children.
Williams was shot along with two other passengers in a limousine on a downtown Denver street shortly after two in the morning. Police say one of the bullets hit Williams in the neck and he apparently died instantly.
The group had left a party at a Denver nightclub.
Police haven’t identified any suspects, and are unsure of the nature of taunts that they believe sparked an altercation at the nightclub before the shooting. Denver police are still searching for a white SUV with dark tinted windows.
While police work to find the gunman, Williams' family tries to cope as best they can.
"He was just an outgoing person. Like I say he loved everybody and he was just, he was just a good person and we're sure going to miss him," Williams’ grandmother Easter Williams said.
Williams will also be missed by fans and former teammates; many of them are here in Oklahoma.
Williams played on the Oklahoma State football team from 2001 to 2004. Former players say his death is hitting them hard.
"Football players have kind of a special bond that you develop over the years and it hurts to see something like that happen to somebody who you shared some times with," said former teammate Jacob Dressen.
A memorial fund is set up for Williams' 7-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter in Fort Worth.
A viewing is scheduled Friday evening at the Great Commission Baptist Church in Fort Worth, with the funeral scheduled for Saturday at the same church.
