DURANT, Okla. (AP) -- A former mayor of the southern Oklahoma town of Achille is being sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex crimes involving children.

Former Mayor John Henry Wigington was sentenced after pleading no contest to five counts of lewd molestation and one count of forcible sodomy.

Bryan County authorities say they began investigating Wigington and Kennith Ray McKinney after getting a tip that Wigington was paying McKinney to sexually abuse children.

McKinney committed suicide during the investigation.

Wigington served as mayor of Achille from 1999 through 2001 and was a reserve police officer.
