A state lawmaker's plan to build a private prison in one Mayes County town is being greeted with skepticism.
State Representative Doug Cox of Grove says a Florida-based group is behind the idea. Geo Group Incorporated wants to build a 1,000 bed private prison in Spavinaw. Cox says the prison would generate 200 jobs. But opponents don't like the idea of inmates living in Spavinaw.
The Oklahoma Department of Commerce will present economic impact studies at a town hall meeting on January 4th.
