STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Bobby Reid's choice of apparel for Oklahoma State's upcoming trip to the Independence Bowl might seem odd -- until you understand the depth of the quarterback's appreciation of football history.
Reid had his mother in Houston make sure his throwback Joe Namath jersey was cleaned last week so that he could wear it during the Cowboys' visit to Shreveport, Louisiana. OSU will play Namath's alma mater, Alabama, in the December 28th Independence Bowl.
Reid said the jersey, which he received as a Christmas gift while in high school, is a white 1960s New York Jets model with Namath's Number 12 on it.
Reid says Namath was his number one quarterback. Reid says he likes Namath's nickname -- 'Broadway Joe,' -- and images of him on the sideline wearing a mink coat.
