MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- Researchers investigating catfish eggs that have a strange purple color have discovered heavy metal water pollution.
And that pollution is being examined as a possible cause for the purple phenomenon.
Tests are being done for the presence of heavy metals that may be washing into Lake Eufaula from Deep Fork River tributaries.
A group of researchers sponsored by Connors State College began collecting water and sediment samples this past summer from the Deep Fork River.
Preliminary findings have narrowed the team's focus to Deep Fork River tributaries flowing from southern Okmulgee County.
