MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- The state Fire Marshal's office will help with an investigation into a fire that killed two young boys.
5-year-old Daniel Price and 3-year-old Jerry Brooks were taken to Muskogee Regional Medical Center where they were pronounced dead Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were notified about 9 AM of the blaze at a duplex in southwest Muskogee.
Police say the boys' disabled father, 49-year-old Antonio Brooks, was taken to the police station for questioning and tested for drugs and alcohol.
Sergeant Greg Martin says the tests are to ensure no foul play was involved. Martin says Brooks didn't appear to be intoxicated but was distraught and upset about the children.
Martin says when the fire broke out, Brooks told the boys to remain in a back room while he tried to put it out.
He says when the back door was opened; it gave the fire oxygen and caused it to spread, preventing him from getting back to the boys.
