Two young boys die in a house fire in Muskogee. They were only 3 and 5 years old.

News on 6 reporter Chris Wright says shortly before 9 AM Wednesday, neighbors say they heard screams coming from the house. The Muskogee Fire Department arrived on scene, but despite their best efforts they weren't able to save the two boys.

The fire happened at a low-income housing project in Muskogee. Neighbors say the 3 and 5 year olds lived in the home with their father. Another 5-year-old boy, a twin of one of the victims, was in school, when the fire started.

Witnesses tell the News on 6, the boy’s father burned himself while trying to go back into the home to rescue his sons. Muskogee Resident Rebecca Arnold also tried to help, by breaking the windows with a crowbar, but says the fire was to intense and they were unable to get the children out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Muskogee Police are interviewing the boy's father.
