ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) We know how they're doing on the football
Field, but how are they doing in the classroom?

According to a new study, the college football teams that are headed for the five major bowl games this year performed better academically, overall, than the national average.

The study from the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport, and the University of Central Florida, finds that the nation's top college football teams are generally improving in the classroom.

Of the teams invited to bowl games this year, 86 percent are graduating at least half of their players.

But the study also finds that among the top bowl teams, white players are graduating at a higher rate than black players, by far more than the national average.

The University of Oklahoma had a graduation success rate of 67 percent for its white football players, compared to 43 percent for black players. The team's overall graduation success rate was 52 percent.
