LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) The Kansas football team is staying home for the holidays.

The Jayhawks were shut out of the post-season despite earning the 6 victories necessary to become bowl eligible. They included a 39-20 victory over instate rival Kansas State, which is headed to the Texas Bowl to take on Rutgers.

Other Big 12 teams getting bowl bids were Oklahoma State, another six-win team, to the Independence Bowl. Texas A&M plays Cal in the Holiday Bowl, Missouri faces Oregon State in the Sun Bowl and Texas Tech plays Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.

The Alamo Bowl pits Texas against Iowa. Nebraska is back to playing on New Year's Day, this time in the Cotton Bowl against Auburn. And Big 12 champ Oklahoma takes on undefeated Boise State in the BCS Fiesta Bowl.
