NEW YORK (AP) Lindsay Lohan is going to Alcoholic Anonymous.

Her mother confirms the 20-year-old actress chose to attend the meetings, calling it "a positive thing."

The New York Post first reported sightings of Lohan at an AA meeting earlier this week. The actress often makes celebrity columns for her hard-partying ways.

Lohan publicist Leslie Sloane says the press was unfair to the actress for a rambling statement she wrote after last week's death of Robert Altman, who'd directed her in "A Prairie Home Companion."

Sloane says a sad Lohan wrote the letter "on the fly" on her Blackberry. Media observers noted grammatical errors and misspellings. One columnist declared it "alarmingly incoherent."
