NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson won't play in this week's Bedlam game at Oklahoma State.

Coach Bob Stoops made the announcement Monday during the Big 12 Conference's weekly coaches call.

Peterson suffered a broken collarbone in OU's Big 12 opener against Iowa State. Stoops says a recent scan didn't show enough progress in the healing that needs to occur before Peterson can be cleared to play.

Meanwhile, OSU coach Mike Gundy says his team needs to be prepared for a strong running game nonetheless. Gundy says he's been impressed with backups Allen Patrick and true freshman Chris Brown.

The 101st Bedlam matchup kicks off at 1:30 pm Saturday in Stillwater.
