The Ottawa County DA’s office says it will file a motion to halt the proposed release of a Quapaw woman.
Toni Torres has been in a Vinita mental-health center since being acquitted two years ago of killing her son. The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health has filed notice that it wants to grant Torres several one-day passes.
In 2004, a court found Torres, insane and unable to stand trial on a charge of first-degree murder in the 2003 drowning death of her 17-month-old son.
Alex Torres’ body was found submerged in about 20 feet of water near Twin Bridges State Park in Ottawa County. His brother was found sitting on the riverbank screaming. Toni Torres was found on the other side of the river.
