LANGSTON, Okla. (AP) -- Officials at Langston University are looking to diversify the student body with more white, Hispanic and American Indian students.

Langston is a historically black college founded in 1897 to provide an education to the underserved and minority population in Oklahoma.

The school has about 3,000 students at its three campuses, which include satellite campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Its ten-year strategic plan calls for increasing enrollment to 5,000.

And while Langston is succeeding in attracting white students -- it’s main campus remains 88 percent black.

Now the school is looking to hire a bilingual recruiter and developing contacts in the state's Hispanic community in an effort to increase the number of Hispanic students.

The next step comes next year when Langston hopes to hire an American Indian recruiter.
