NORMAN, Okla. (AP) New Oklahoma basketball coach Jeff Capel is losing his first recruit for at least a few weeks.

Capel says guard Bobby Maze will miss the first 4 to 6 weeks of the season after breaking a bone in his right foot during practice. Capel says Maze broke the foot Wednesday night and is to have surgery Thursday night.

OU is already without top returning scorer Michael Neal for the first two games because of a secondary violation of NCAA rules.

The Sooners open their regular season Friday night against Norfolk State.
