OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Heritage Hall High School kicker Jimmy Stevens kicks the 49th and 50th field goals of his career to set a new national prep football record.
Stevens booted field goals of 26 yards and 52 yards in the 2nd quarter of the Chargers' 14-13 loss to Bethel Friday night. He missed a 31 yard attempt as time expired.
According to the National High School Sports Record Book, two players shared the previous record of 48, Brian Bond, who played for Wilson High School in Hacienda Heights, California, from 1999 to 2000, and Tomas Sanchez, who played for Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1995 to 1998.
Stevens entered the game having missed 8 of his previous 10 attempts. He says he was relieved to finally have broken the record.
Stevens has orally committed to play college football at Oklahoma.
