Unlicensed artists are putting a stain on a popular makeup trend.

Some eastern Oklahoma women are trading in lipstick and eyeliner for permanent makeup tattoos. But not everyone can legally apply the ink.

State law requires permanent makeup artists be licensed and under the supervision of a doctor. Mychelle Tulk is a registered nurse and a licensed permanent makeup artist. She says customers should research their artist before going under the needle.

"Clients shopping around for the best price don't think about things. Well this person isn't traveling around with a 150-pount Autoclave. How are they getting their things sterilized."

It's illegal to perform the service at your home or beauty salons.
