OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A new law intended to improve the safety of elevators statewide goes into effect Wednesday.
The Oklahoma Elevator Safety Law requires all elevators and similar devices that transport people to be inspected and registered with the state.
The law marks the first time in more than 20 years the state has had a statewide elevator inspection program although Oklahoma City and Tulsa operate their own inspections.
State Labor Commissioner Brenda Reneau says the state's inspection program will include national elevator safety codes, guidelines and regulations.
