A Tulsa highway reopens after a deadly traffic accident.
The wreck happened during Monday afternoon rush hour in the southbound lane of US highway 75, near 81st Street.
The accident killed one driver and another man is in critical condition.
Investigators say the driver of a Dodge Ram pulled off the highway and into the median. The driver, who was hauling steel rebar, wanted to make sure his load was secure.
Another truck drifted too close, and smashed into the trailer. "That vehicle continued on, striking the man that was working on the trailer load, and as it was still going out of control on the southbound direction, was struck by another vehicle," said Tulsa Police officer Scott Walton.
Officers say the man securing his trailer almost had his leg ripped off.
The truck hit the trailer so hard the door ripped off the hinges, and wedged into the trailer.
Officers shut down southbound lanes of US Highway 75 for a few hours while they figured out what happened, and picked up scattered debris.
