Statistics show immigrant workers are a key part of America's economy. So a Tulsa church has launched a program to help local employers and workers understand the law. Park Plaza Church of Christ hosted a meeting Tuesday night.

Those who gathered met face to face with an immigration lawyer about how to get a work Visa. A Visa is a way for foreign nationals to legally work or study in the US on a temporary basis, but it does not apply to undocumented workers already here.

Immigration lawyer Rohit Sharma: "the only way that it can happen for someone who's here illegally is if they go back to their home country."

A Visa must be applied for in one's home country and sponsored by a US employer or family member. A limited number are given out each year. An employer of undocumented workers could be fined $10,000 per person.

The next meeting to explain the current law is November 14th at 7 PM at the Park Plaza Church of Christ on 51st between Yale and Sheridan.
